Arne Tobian’s research focuses on interactions among planetary boundaries

Tobian is working towards a joint PhD from Stockholm Resilience Centre and Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Germany. His PhD is part of the Earth Resilience in the Anthropocene (ERA) project. The ERA projects main objective is to improve the understanding of critical transitions shifting the Earth System out of the stable state. Tobian’s research aims at process-based quantifications of interactions among planetary boundaries, thereby investigating how increasing anthropogenic pressure on one aspect of the Earth system can contribute towards destabilizing others.

Tobian holds a Master of Science degree in Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science from Lund University, Sweden and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Leipzig University, Germany. He further followed courses at the Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary, the Universidad de Chile, Chile and the University Centre in Svalbard.

Before joining Stockholm Resilience Centre, Tobian was working as a research and teaching assistant within different subjects at Leipzig University and supported research at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Germany as well as the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya.
